Zach Scharf, MSW

Riverbend Counseling Staff

Charlottesville Office

I recently graduated with a master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from Virginia Commonwealth University. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space for all individuals by meeting each person where they are at and supporting them to where they want to be. I have experience working with youth of all ages navigate their mental health, identity shifts, and life pressures. I incorporate a person-centered and strength-based approach when working with clients. It is important that clients feel safe, heard, and understood as we enter into the therapeutic journey.

As an athlete and coach, I have been exposed to the challenges that student-athletes experience. Witnessing how difficult it can be to manage life pressures, sports performance, academics, and social life fueled my desire to be the support for individuals who feel as if people do not understand. As such, these experiences shaped how I approach clients and challenge them throughout their therapeutic journey. Outside of work, I enjoy spoiling our four cats, cooking with my wife, and finding time to exercise.
